Where to play casino in Torquay
The past few years have not been easy on people looking to gamble in Torquay. The main Torquay casino has shut down which has left punters with only a few options left in town. However, although things are more difficult than they used to be, it’s still possible to place a few wagers in a variety of ways. Let’s look at the current state of play for those looking for a casino experience in Torquay.
Genting Casino Torquay – Permanently Closed
In summer 2020, the Genting Casino in Torquay shut its doors for good. While the establishment regularly achieved a steady flow of customers, the business was no longer deemed to be financially viable.
Several other Genting casinos were similarly earmarked for closure around the same time. This has left the Genting in Plymouth as the closest available. So it’s not exactly on your doorstep and would require a fair bit of effort to get there.
Grosvenor Casino Torquay – Not Available
The other large casino chain in the UK is Grosvenor. Along with Genting, these two main brands offer pretty much everything you would need to gamble - and most towns have one or the other. But unfortunately that’s not the case here, as there’s no Grosvenor casino in Torquay.
Again, the closest is the Grosvenor in Plymouth. And as we already mentioned, that is quite a journey which would require time and planning. So not exactly optimal for a casual game.
Local Options – Limited Selection
After Genting’s closure, this has left only a small selection of gambling options left in Torquay. A few examples include:
- Moretons Casino - a small outlet with several fruit machines and slots.
- Merkur Slots - a small gambling hall with some slot machines on offer.
- Golden Palms - an entertainment centre that has a few video slots, jackpot games, and a bingo hall.
While these are all decent local options in the centre of town, the number of games they have on offer is small. They’re mostly limited to slots and maybe a handful of other titles.
Online Options – Wide Variety
So given the scarcity of local casino options, the one clear alternative is to try your luck on the internet.
Online gambling has grown substantially over the last few years - for many reasons. The most obvious one is convenience as you can start to play in a matter of minutes using your mobile phone. But the game selection is also considerable - as online casinos can host as many virtual games as they want - so you can play slots, blackjack, roulette, poker, and much more.
One major advantage for players is that online casinos offer a variety of bonuses - which land-based establishments can’t or don’t. In the best cases, you can play without using your own money. For example, some websites offer free spins no deposit in the UK which allow you to play a slot machine a few times without using your own cash to bet. Of course, as these offers are available to those in the UK, this includes residents of Torquay.
You do have to bear in mind that there’s less of a social side to playing online. That’s because you’re unable to speak to other punters like you are in a land-based establishment. Of course, it’s still possible to gamble online with friends if they are with you though.
