With the world opening up again, we are pleased to see Plymouth returning to normality. As summer approaches, we are excited to return to the sandy beaches and live our lives again. We expect the south coast attractions to open up to tourists again this summer which means that our fantastic casinos will be open for business once again.

Casinos in the United Kingdom in general have gone through hard times due to lockdowns. Furthermore, they still await an update to the 2005 Gambling Act which is expected to increase regulations surrounding all types of gambling operators. Be that as it may, we at The Devon Daily have decided to write an article for the casino lovers in Plymouth in particular by showcasing the best casinos in the city.

Grosvenor Casino

Generally regarded as the very best casino in Plymouth, Grosvenor Casino in Plymouth is one of dozens of Grosvenor branded casinos across the UK. Devon’s historic Port is home to the Grosvenor Casino and offers players an array of fantastic gambling games including table games and slots.

Grosvenor is routinely used as a location for Birthdays, Christmas parties and company events. Visitors can expect to be received well by the staff and will be treated to free drinks and food whilst playing at the casino. In addition, the venue also hosts numerous widescreen TVs, perfect for any sporting events including the World Cup.

In our opinion, Grosvenor is the number one choice if you do feel like playing some fun casino games or if you are simply looking for a fun night out. You will also get to play daily poker tournaments. You can also play at the Grosvenor online casino too, although Grosvenor in Plymouth is open 24/7, so you really have no excuse for not going down if you fancy your chances of winning!

Sloopy’s Casino Slots

Certainly an old school casino but Sloopy’s Casino Slots has been a Plymouth landmark for several decades now. The main attraction here is Sloopy’s large collection of slot machines as well as the friendly and welcoming staff members.

Sloopy’s Casino has received decent Google Reviews and scores a total of 3.4 out of 5.

Genting Casino

Genting casino is very similar to Grosvenor in terms that it is a branded casino with locations across the UK. Genting offers a nice atmosphere, great staff and a mixture of great casino games such as Blackjack, Roulette, Poker and slot machines. The downside to Genting as reported by players who have played there is that it is quite a small location and lacks air conditioning in the Summer.

However, with a rating of 3.8 out of 5 on Google from a total of over 100 players, Genting is one of the top locations in Plymouth for casino gaming.

MERKUR Casino

First of all, Merkur Casino is also open 24/7, so you can take a trip to this casino anytime you want. Merkur casino is a little old fashioned and overall is a little lacking compared to the other casinos in this list.

You will still have the opportunity to play a collection of modern and fun casino games, as you would expect. However, we do agree that Merkur is in need of refurbishment, especially from the outside.

With that being said, Merkur still has decent reviews and if its your closest casino, then check it out if you have never been before.

2005 Gambling Act and Playing Online

As we alluded to earlier in the article, the UK is set to undergo a change in its gambling laws, to what extent, we do not yet know. There have been several reports that the Act will be updated to include restrictions on betting sponsors within sports played in the UK, specifically in regards to football.

However, there have also been rumours that gamblers online will be restricted to just £100 bets per month in addition to a limit on the maximum bet of online slots slots. For example, currently, the well-liked Double Bubble sites allow players to bet online up to and over £50 per spin. If new regulations come into place, these bets could be severely limited.

Both Grosvenor and Genting now have a huge presence in the online world. The online casino industry is now worth far more than the land based one, which is why it's not a surprise to see the majority of the resources of the two operators be primarily used for their online activities.

The 2005 Gambling Act update will also likely have an effect on the laws surrounding land-based casinos too. If any news is broken surrounding gambling laws, we will not hesitate to report it and let you know.
