Police continue investigation into factory death of Slovenian worker

Police report that the 22-year-old Slovenian man who died after an industrial accident at the Interfish factory in Wallsend Industrial Estate, Plymouth has yet to be formally identified, although officers have met with his family.

The man was working in the freezer area shortly after 7pm on Friday 18 October 2013 when he was struck by a falling pallet and sustained fatal injuries.

One other man was injured in the incident and suffered extensive bruising.

Detective Inspector Nassaris said: “Police have met with the family of the deceased and expressed their condolences to them.

“We hope to be able to arrange for the formal identification and release of the deceased’s body to his family as soon as possible.”

A joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) into the death is ongoing. Police say that the investigation is focusing on the factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Police are leading the investigation, known as Operation Keypad, to establish the exact circumstances and are appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward by contacting police on 101 quoting reference 672 of 18/10/2013
