Met Office issues warning of heavy rain and possible flooding
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of further outbreaks of heavy, thundery rain for the South West during Thursday and Friday (3rd and 4th October). It has warned the public of the risk of flooding.
The Met Office reports: "Further outbreaks of heavy, thundery, rain will spread from the south during Thursday and overnight into Friday with the potential for some torrential downpours in places."
"The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding."
The forecast for Thursday and Friday is as follows:
"Heavy, thundery rain will spread into southern and southwestern parts of England and Wales during Thursday morning...whilst further thundery showers affect southwestern areas during the evening and overnight into Friday. Amounts of rain will be very variable, but locally 20-30 mm is possible within an hour and 40-50 mm within 3 hours, mainly in the southwest, but many places will receive much less than this."
A number of roads in and around Plymouth, including the A379 near Yealmpton, B3416 Plymouth Road, Plympton and B3392 at Bigbury (both ways between A379 and Marine Drive), have already experienced delays and access problems due to flooding, while driving conditions are likely to prove testing at times.
