Renowned singer Christine Tobin has been a long time admirer of Leonard Cohen’s music. She is acknowledged as one of the finest interpreters of his work and has won the prestigious Herald Angel Award at the 2013 British Vocal Jazz Festival for ‘A Thousand Kisses Deep’ her tribute to Cohen.
As the Guardian’s John L. Walters writes “Christine is in a class of her own singing Leonard Cohen. Her 24 carat voice and captivating arrangements are spellbinding, ploughing the depths and expressing the poetry of his lyrics with unalloyed soulfulness”.
Calstock Arts’s new season of classical music continues with Australian born guitarist Craig Ogden, one of the most exciting artists of his generation, who returns to The Old Chapel following two outstanding performances in 2010 and 2011.

An evening of toe-tapping Tin Pan Alley music with the return of Speakeasy, featuring Geoff ‘Spoons’ Lakeman, Steve ‘Scats’ Redman and Steve ‘Spats’ Potter who dish it out with guitar, violin, authentic 1920s concertina, vocals and spoons to perform great songs from the twenties and thirties. Expect a dose of good time musical madness, dazzling culinary percussion and hankie-wringing sentimentality. As Fats Waller said, ‘nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.’
Geoff is well known as the father of the Lakeman dynasty and is a regular performer in various guises at Calstock Arts....
The Big Jazz Choir is Calstock’s newest, thirty strong choir, formed in 2013.
Under the musical direction of Helen Porter, their performance includes much loved jazz standards and songs created and arranged especially for the choir. They are joined in the second half by local singer/song writers Marianne Bos Clark, Joy Treliving, Anna Batson, Dan Chudleigh, Jane Spurr and Kai Benjamin. They will sing Vintage Love Songs inspired by conversations with elderly residents of Calstock; as performed at the 2013 Calstock Jazz and Blues Festival.
Tony Hawks’s hilarious new show combines storytelling, stand up, musical comedy and film clips to create two hours of fun.
Amongst other things Tony will recount the amusing and sometimes fraught story of how he went from being ‘Comedian and Author’ to ‘Comedian, Author and Film-maker’. His hilarious tales of how he became an independent film maker – producing both ‘Round Ireland With A Fridge’ and ‘Playing The Moldovans At Tennis’ – will be peppered with the wry observations that have made him such a hit on BBC Radio 4’s Just A Minute and I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue.
Described by The Times as “the country’s leading musical satirist” and a favourite for more than a decade on BBC Radio 4’s ‘The Now Show’, Mitch will preview his brand new Edinburgh show. Plus there’ll be a selection of the greatest hits – and near misses – from his extensive back catalogue.
An intimate evening of comedy, song and fabness.
‘Well crafted, well sung, his songs are just plain funny’ THE GUARDIAN
‘Very funny … plenty of musical satire here too.’ SCOTSGAY *****

Deft, daft, delightful… and definitely Dickens! Written by one of England’s greatest authors, Great Expectations is the profound and complex story of Pip’s journey through life.
Some of his most memorable characters – the terrifying Magwitch, Joe Gargery the kind and generous blacksmith, the eccentric Miss Havisham, the cold and beautiful Estella, Mr Jaggers the pompous lawyer and Pip’s wise friend, Herbert Pocket – are vividly brought to life in this anarchic and joyful telling of this glorious tale.
Using original words and speech (well, mostly!), Dave Mynne, Cornish...
