Raiders sign two players ahead of the new season
Plymouth University Raiders have signed two new players ahead of their BBL season opener against London Lions at Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday (29 September).
The versatile 23-year-old, 6’8” Trevor Setty, arrives to replace Garrius Holloman. Setty played at Pikeville University in Kentucky last season. He can play shooting guard, small forward and power forward positions.
Raiders' Coach Jay Marriott told the team's website he was delighted with getting Setty on board. “Trevor is going to add even more character to the nucleus of players that we fully believe in. We brought him in because he will spread the floor, and teams will need to respect his perimeter shooting skills at all times. The Le Portel game was just an insight into what his performances will be like this season – pretty amazing when you think he only got off the flight 8 hours before and then travelled to France. I’m really excited about having him involved this season.“
24-year-old guard Matt Pressey arrives from Missouri. The 6'2" American, replaces Jarvis Jones and had tryouts with NBA team, Golden State Warriors earlier this summer.
Jay Marriott said of Pressey: “Matt is a classic example of a top level player who has slipped through the cracks. It’s great for us and great for the league to have a player of his calibre coming into the league. He is a born leader, and comes with huge experience and talent. He will help all of his teammates get better and like Trevor, he is prepared to do anything to help the team win.”
Raiders fans will have the opportunity to see the two new players and the rest of the Raiders in action against London Lions this weekend. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets early this week as tickets have been selling well so far.
