Plymouth Oddfellows: “Friendship is Our Byword”

Looking to meet new people, enjoy good company, and be part of something meaningful? The Plymouth and Truro District Oddfellows might be just what you’re looking for.

Part of one of the UK’s oldest and most welcoming friendly societies, the Oddfellows offers a wide range of regular social events and support services to help members stay connected, active and supported—all while having a great time.

Every six weeks, members from the East Cornwall and Plymouth Pride of the West group gather for a friendly Sunday lunch. These relaxed get-togethers are a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Recent events have also included a lunch at Edgcumbe Court and a well-received coffee morning at Mollies Coffee Shop in Plympton—likely the first of many to come.

Kathrine Hicks-Jane from Plymouth has been organising these lunches for over 20 years and under the leadership of local Chair Brenda Lowe, the group is now adding even more events to the calendar, including regular coffee mornings and the monthly meetings at Saint Budeaux Community Centre.

Each monthly meet includes a short ceremonial meeting followed by lunch and a relaxed friendship session—perfect for those looking to socialise in a warm, welcoming space.

“We always try somewhere new for the lunches as well as having some firm favourites,” says Brenda. “These events are a lovely way to stay in touch and enjoy each other’s company. Whether you come on your own, with a partner, or with a friend, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. When you’re part of the Oddfellows, you’re never alone.”

Brenda adds, “There’s always someone to greet you and make sure you feel comfortable. We take care of the organising—so all you have to do is come along and enjoy yourself. Friendship is our byword.”
