Shutters are a great way to bring out the best in a window and choosing the right ones for you can be a daunting task; since there are so many different kinds of shutters it can be helpful to get a basic idea of some of the different kinds.

There are more than three kinds but the three that are listed here are just some of the most popular in the UK and in the South of England specifically; shutters in Kent are very popular now just as they have been for a long time now, according to London Interior Shutters it also isn’t expected that they are going to fall out of fashion any time soon either.

One thing to also consider when talking about shutters for a home is that there are both interior shutters and exterior shutters, this list will only be covering interior but exterior is also something for you to consider.

1: Plantation

Plantation shutters have been incredibly popular in the UK and the world for a long time now, they get their name from the American South but there is evidence that they date all the way back to ancient Greece. They were popular for ultimately the same reasons. They look nice and they are a great way of dealing with the Mediterranean heat.

The way they work is that they have horizontal slats that can be tilted depending on how much light you are looking to let in, they also swing open like doors. They are really popular because of the fact that they are incredibly versatile and they give you a lot of control in regards to light.

2: Café

Café-style shutters are designed in such a way that only half of the window is covered either the top half or the bottom half. You will most likely have seen these if you have been to a French café or maybe seen them in a movie at some point.

That is where the name comes from; French cafés. They are designed so that they provide privacy and will also be able to let a lot of natural light in, that is why the bottom half of the window is usually the side that is covered.

They are also great for being able to control the amount of light that you let in just like plantation shutters.

3: Tier-on-Tier

Tier-on-tier also known as multi-tier shutters are designed similarly to café style shutters except they are divided into sections. So that it gives you much more control over what parts of the window are covered and which aren't.

They are much more versatile than café-style due to having this increased amount of control over light and privacy. If you want to have them all open you can, if you want to have some parts open and some parts not you can, or if you would like to have them all closed you are able to do that too.

Many More

The list goes on when it comes to the available shutters that you can get for your home and that is part of the reason that they are so popular.

If you are looking to get shutters then make sure to consider all of your options before deciding on one, but when you do, they will really be able to do so much for your home not only in the way they look but also for the fact that they will become a permanent fixture in the property, ultimately increasing the resale value.
