PSP design team boosts city student talent to support local firms
Some of Devon’s best upcoming design talent is being given the opportunity to hone their skills and supply first rate work to top firms across the country, thanks to a pioneering scheme set up by Plymouth Science Park based company, Logo Creative Partners.
The team is currently in the process of expanding its portfolio at the 25 acre Derriford site. They’ve launched DoMoreDesign.com in conjunction with Plymouth City Council. The aim of the project is to encourage students to undertake design work for companies.
The scheme takes the form of a competition which allows a client to choose their favourite design from a number of student entries. All competitors gain crucial feedback and the winner also benefits financially.
The cost for the client is manageable and appropriate to the budget of a small firm or a start-up which is looking for a professional high-end image (but without the inherent costs).
“We currently have 70 students and graduates who are working on live projects, it’s good for their CV because it’s real design work,” says Logo Creative Partners owner Nick Burrage who bought the business in November 2015.
Nick spent 20 years working for some of the UK’s best-known marketing agencies, including Saatchi and Saatchi.
His experience, expertise and knowledge allows him to be able to understand the client’s business model and, as such, what they are trying to communicate to their target audience.
Logo Creative Partners hopes the scheme will allow students to see the success of any business hinges on the design and branding of both itself and its products.
“The job of a good logo is to help business grow. It needs to be engaging and to cut through the clutter of the competition. It can be quite an organic process as we discuss what the client wants and gain an insight into the psychology of their business. The aim is to produce a unique and thoughtful design.”
Logo Creative Partners also believes in the importance of sensitivity when working on campaigns.
“We recently worked on a mental health project and so were very careful in our approach to communicating the service. It’s crucial to be mindful of the market and to remember that you should never confuse aspirations with the reality of how people might be feeling.”
Nick says being based at Plymouth Science Park allows businesses to collectively promote each other when they meet with the wider business community of Plymouth.
“It’s a good place for networking and there’s more chance to meet a broad range of firms by working on site than if you were based in a large city where businesses are spread over a large geographical distance.”
Do More Design is offering a 100% risk free money back guarantee which is aimed at start-up businesses (where budgets may initially be limited).
