See Saltram in a different light

Throughout January and February, Saltram House near Plymouth will be open and many of its treasures illuminated for the first time.

The East Wing holds some of the house’s grandest rooms, including a spectacular Robert Adam saloon and the Great Kitchen. In past years, the house was closed to visitors out of season, partly to protect the collection from degradation caused by sunlight and UV radiation, but also so the National Trust team could undertake very important conservation work.

This year, however, specially-designed lighting has enabled much of the significant collection to stay on display, while conservation work on the stunning paintings, ceramics and textiles is able to take place in full-view of the public.

Families can also pick up a special UV torch and enjoy the ‘Hidden light trail’, hunting out clues to reveal a secret image; and, afterwards they can enjoy a walk in the garden to see the snowdrops or even an early daffodil, or visit the Shop and Café which are open daily selling gifts and serving light lunches.
