Bonfire Night: Top firework displays in Devon

Devon is no stranger to bangs and crackles, and come November, adventure parks, rugby clubs and open spaces are bound to come alive at night with the colours, shapes and rhythms of some of Britain's best fireworks. Being a Devon based caravan accessories retailer (https://www.leisureshopdirect.com/) we’ve had our fair share of travellers asking for advice on where to go when in the area on bonfire night. So we thought we’d put together a list of the top firework displays in Devon:

Ottery St. Mary
What induces townsmen to lug tar barrels on their backs and to set them alight in local pubs and hotels with the intent to carry them up to the square at midnight is beyond most people's comprehension. Still, the 35-foot bonfire, the funfair and the impressive firework display bring hoards of spectators eager to witness the event to St. Saviours Meadow. The Flaming Tar Barrels have become the mainstay of the Ottery St. Mary Carnival, the organisers claim, and as the local brewery has gone through the trouble of creating and dedicating an official beer to the event, the Flaming Ale, it becomes clear that this is a November must-see.

Exeter Round Table
Radio Exe and the Exeter Round Table host an annual fireworks extravaganza at the Westpoint Arena. If you don't feel like fairground rides, and you're not tickled pink by the thought of splashing out on the scrumptious food and drink varieties on offer, then maybe you'd like to join for charity. The 2015 event promises to come to the aid of Devon Air Ambulance (http://www.daat.org/), so what better reason to revel in the funfair and fireworks than the thought that you'll be saving lives in the process?

Crealy Great Adventure Park
For those who'd like to bring their children to a fireworks spectacular with live music and funk bands resounding in the background, the Crealy Adventure Park is poised to please with their festival food stalls, fun rides and face painters, among others.

Torbay Royal Regatta
If you happen to be in Torquay in late August, why not make your visit to the English Riviera memorable? You may not have the chance to see a real comet any time soon, but the man-made, shimmering starbursts at the Torbay Royal Regatta event could very well quench your thirst for stunning visual displays, at least for the time being.

Bradninch Fireworks and Bonfire
Raising funds for the local youth, the professional pyrotechnic display at Bradninch is an event not to be missed. A laid-back, folksy event where hot food is served on a football field and tickets are sold on the gate, the bonfire and sparkles bring locals and out-of-towners to this Duchy town every year.

And last but certainly no least: Plymouth Bonfire Night
An enormous bonfire and spectacular street food stands aren’t all that the Plymouth has to offer this bonfire night. Heart FM presenters Matt and Caroline will be in amongst the action, hosting an evening of entertainment where local acts will be performing on stage for your entertainment. And with firework specialists Pyrovision running the fireworks display – if you choose to go; you’re in for a real treat!
