Family fun at Museum and Art Gallery

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is hosting three fun events especially for families over the next couple of weeks.

‘Cabinets of Curiosity’ on Friday 15 May is part of the national Museums at Night celebrations and visitors will be able to see thousands of insects and hundreds of pickled creatures from the natural history collections, as well as enjoy some arts and crafts activities.

The free event will run from 6pm to 8.30pm and people are welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they like.

There are also two family-friendly activities on offer during the half term break.

On Wednesday 27 May there's a drop-in craft session inspired by a new exhibition called ‘Fallen Emperor: Napoleon in Plymouth Sound in 1815’, which opens at the Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday 23 May.

‘Napoleon’s Hat’ will run from 10.30am to 1pm, with last entries at 12.30pm and children will be able to make a paper hat in the style of Napoleon's, as well as what he may have kept under it. Admission is free and there is no need to book.

‘Paper Cup Consequences’ on Thursday 28 May will take its inspiration from the works of Sir Joshua Reynolds, as well as the other artists featured in the Museum’s popular ’In the Frame: Plymouth’s Portraits Revealed’ exhibition.

At this workshop, families will create paper cups that turn into fun changeable portraits.The session will run from 10.30am to midday and the cost is just £2.50 per child. Advance booking is advised - call 01752 304774 or call in at the Museum welcome desk.
