Plymouth schools receive wildlife gardening lessons

Children from Yealmpstone Farm School in Plympton have been busy creating wildlife areas in their school grounds thanks to a partnership between Devon Wildlife Trust and Western Power Distribution.

‘Grounds for Life’ aim to equip the children with the skills and knowledge to create wildlife-rich green spaces and help them understand the issues of sustainability in our towns and cities and how they all inter-connect.

Paul Martin, Devon Wildlife Trust’s education officer led the session at Yealmpstone and said: "School grounds are a vital resource for learning and wildlife, providing exciting experiences for children to learn outside.

“The support from Western Power Distribution means that we can provide time, expertise and resources in order to drive forward plans that might otherwise take a long time to fulfil.  This is an exciting and stimulating project for everyone involved".

Ten schools across Plymouth will benefit from one of these sessions during the next few weeks.
