Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police Shaun Sawyer has been awarded the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) in the New Year’s Honours by Her Majesty the Queen.

The QPM is awarded to those in the Force who have shown gallantry or distinguished service. In his 33 years in the force, Chief Constable Sawyer has displayed this by consistently going above and beyond to better policing both locally and nationally.

He has had a profound impact on modern policing and his dedication has helped to nationally tackle modern slavery and organised immigration crime.

As the national lead for the Volunteer Police Cadets program, Chief Constable Sawyer has been instrumental in bringing a culture shift in the way in which police interact with young people and in the way in which communities view the police.

Upon receiving the QPM, Chief Constable Sawyer, said: “Any recognition by Her Majesty the Queen is a privilege, yet this award has been built on the foundations of the love and tireless commitment of family, colleagues and friends across my 33 years in policing.”

Chief Constable Sawyer, finished: "I would also like to congratulate Dorset Police Chief Constable James Vaughan for also being awarded the QPM"
