College to host free family fun day

On Saturday 4 July between 11.00am and 4.00pm, City College Plymouth will be opening its Kings Road site for a FREE fun-packed family day out.

With a host of activities and entertainment for all ages, visitors are in for a treat! Enjoy the live music on offer from City College students and local bands before taking part in the Plymouth Raiders’ basketball free throw competition and the Plymouth Argyle penalty shoot-out. Or try out sumo wrestling and archery, or take a seat and have a go at the computer games run by our Games Development students!

For visitors who want a more relaxing visit, there will be a farmer’s market where local products will be available to purchase, an electric car show in partnership with BMW, Snow’s Group and Vospers, to name but a few, and a 3D cinema experience in the College’s STEM Centre, which opened in February of this year.

The National Marine Aquarium, Devon Bird of Prey and Jack’s Zoo will also be on site with animal encounters, or you could have a go at our fun and whacky photo booth.

The College’s Stars Hair and Day Spa will also be offering mini hair and beauty treatments and PL1 Restaurant will be running a fully licenced bar and a delicious hog roast.

Jo Williams, the College’s Events Officer is organising the day’s activities, and said: “Our community fun day is set to be bigger and better than ever with activities for all the family and all weathers!

“There will be family favourites, like face painting and arts and crafts, but College staff will also be utilising College facilities for such activities as the ‘wheel change challenge’ with our automotive team or fitness time trials with our expert sports team. Whatever you like, we have it!”

Proceeds from cake sales and student stalls will go to the College’s nominated charity, Jeremiah’s Journey, who support young people who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone close to them.

Come along and be part of it! Join us at the College’s Kings Road site between 11.00am and 4.00pm and enjoy a fun family day out. There is free entry and parking available, and Plymouth Citybus is offering a free bus service, number 36A, from Royal Parade every 30 minutes from 10.30am.
