MTV Crashes tickets sell out in 30 minutes!

Tickets for this summer’s MTV Crashes Plymouth event took less than 30 minutes to sell out yesterday.

10,000 tickets reserved for Plymouth residents only went on sale at 9am and were sold out by 9.22am.

Strict checks were completed on all ticket purchases to ensure that all 10,000 were sold to people living in Plymouth.

600 tickets went back on sale at 2pm after checks were completed and either more than one purchase of four tickets was made per household or incorrect (non-Plymouth) postcodes were found.

The hugely anticipated live music event, organised by MTV in collaboration with Plymouth City Council, will take place on Plymouth Hoe on Tuesday 15 July and feature a number of headline music acts.

It follows other massively popular MTV Crashes events staged in Glasgow, Belfast and Manchester.

MTV Crashes Plymouth will be one of the highlights of the city’s ‘Three Towns’ centenary celebrations, marking 100 years since Devonport, Plymouth and Stonehouse joined to form Plymouth as it is known today.

It will be broadcast on MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels MTV Music and MTV Live HD and subsequently across its other music channels, showcasing Britain’s Ocean City in over 35 countries. As well as live coverage of the performances, MTV will be screening interviews with the acts, filmed in various Plymouth locations.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “We knew this event would be popular, but for 10,000 tickets to sell out in just half an hour is incredible! Inevitably not everyone that wanted a ticket would have been able to get one, but the strict sales policy means we’ve made sure that no more than four tickets have gone to any one household and that all 10,000 were sold to Plymouth residents.

“We’re thrilled to be working with MTV to host this fantastic event, which will bring the local community and visitors from all over the UK and beyond together in celebrating one of the most important dates in Plymouth’s history.

"This is an amazing opportunity to promote Plymouth as Britain's Ocean City on a worldwide stage and will cement our reputation as a leading venue for major national and international events, as well as a vibrant centre of music and culture.”
