Last chance to catch War Games exhibition

A major exhibition at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is heading into its final week.

War Games is a nationally touring exhibition from the V&A Museum of Childhood and will be on display until the end of Saturday 18 June.

The exhibition explores the role of warfare in children’s play from 1800 to the present day, and looks at how toys and games have been used to encourage a sense of militarism and nationalism as well as for propaganda.

Designed for adults and children alike, War Games features historic dressing up clothes and weapons, toys inspired by the space race and the atomic age, lots of interactive elements and more.

Over 100 objects from the V&A Museum of Childhood’s collection are on display, as well as loans from the Imperial War Museum and the Museum of London.

The exhibition also encourages people to question their own views and contribute to a debate on playing at war by asking the sometimes difficult question: why do children play war games?

War Games will remain on display at the Museum and Art Gallery until Saturday 18 June. The exhibition is open from 10am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
