D-Day for V-Day?
New research shows that nearly a quarter of people from Plymouth (23%) would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their close friends and perhaps surprisingly, over one in five (21%) who are married or in a relationship also feel this way.
With its risqué subject matter, and eye-catching cast including Jamie Dornan as Mr Grey, chick-flick franchise 50 Shades of Grey proved a popular choice for a girls’ night out first time round. Evidence suggests groups celebrated the film’s release in style, as 47% of the entire year’s prosecco sales at Vue occurred in the week it launched.
Is it D-Day for V-Day?
The majority of people from Plymouth (52%) admit to being tired of the soppy traditions associated with Valentine’s Day such as flowers and chocolates, seeking alternate methods of spoiling their loved ones instead.
However, research also found that over a third of Plymouth residents (36%) still consider a trip to the cinema to be a good date given the wide variety of Oscar nominated films on offer in February. Alternative date night films with love at the centre of the story this month include award-nominated tearjerker Manchester by the Sea and Jackie starring Natalie Portman.
Stephen Cooper, General Manager of Vue Plymouth says, “A trip to watch a film on the big screen has long been a popular night out for everyone – regardless of whether they are in a couple or with friends. The beauty of film is the huge choice of subject matter, so whether you want to cuddle up with a loved one, or enjoy a night out with mates, there’s something for you”.
