Plympton Academy teacher puts best foot forward for charity
Students and staff at Plympton Academy will be cheering on Health and Social Care teacher, Danni Johns, as she runs in the Plymouth Half Marathon next month.
The 29 year old will be running to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice and the school mini bus appeal.
“I hold St Luke’s Hospice close to my heart,” said Danni. “They supported my mum, who passed away three years ago, and every single member of my family.”
Last year Danni raised £750 for Macmillan and St Luke’s Hospice and this year she’s hoping to raise more.
“There are people who walk among us who have seen and felt the heartache of losing a loved one. There is no cure for this feeling, yet I can simply train/run till my bones ache to say thank you to the amazing staff at St Luke's,” she said.
Danni has a strict training schedule that she fits around teaching at Plympton Academy. But she only took up running four years ago.
“For me it isn't about the time, it’s about the process. When you run you have time to acknowledge certain emotions or re-evaluate certain areas of your life. I encourage everyone to take that first run and see how it feels,” said Danni.
Danni says everyone at school is very supportive asking her how her training runs are going and keeping her motivated.
“We are all very proud of Danni,” said Principal, Lisa Boorman. “She is an inspiration to us all and we will be supporting her every step of the way.”
