Burrator Inn fundraises for Gold Dust
The Burrator Inn, Plymouth, has kindly chosen the Gold Dust Appeal to receive the monies raised through their charity fundraiser this year, for reasons close to their heart.
Every year, one charity is selected and over the past 10 years, a staggering £51,000 has been raised. This year’s charity fundraiser involves a 12 hour darts marathon, which is taking place this Saturday 20th August and will be opened by professional darts player Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey. This will then be followed by the annual Charity Real Ales Festival, taking place on Saturday 10th September, where the net proceeds from sales of ale, collections and raffles, will all go to Gold Dust.
Phil Cater, Landlord of The Burrator Inn, said: “As a friend of ours, the professional darts player Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey will be with us this coming weekend. He has kindly offered to support our cause whilst staying with us and has donated a signed football and autobiography by England Football Team Manager, Sam Allardyce, which we are currently selling raffle tickets for at £1.00 per strip, to be drawn at our Ale Fest next month.
“Last December, the newly born baby son of our bar manager, Marc Proctor, and his wife Dawn, was taken ill and admitted to Derriford Hospital with bronchiolitis. He was extremely ill for a while, being unable to breath without oxygen support and a drip for nourishment and was in hospital through the Christmas period.
“Marc and Dawn, having a young daughter as well, took turns staying at Derriford throughout the baby’s illness, and for them, and their young daughter, Christmas last year was a total washout.
“Once Alexander, also known as ‘AJ’, was home and recovering well, I was discussing the coming year’s programme for our business, and what charity we should look to nominate for the year, when Marc remarked he and Dawn would like to repay the kindness, support and effort of those who treated AJ during his time in hospital, and perhaps try to find a way to support those poorly little ones who are cared for at Derriford. This is how it was decided that Gold Dust was the perfect appeal to support.”
Emma Cronin, Gold Dust Fundraising Manager, said: “Phil and his team at The Burrator Inn are a great example of how brilliant our community is in helping local charities. We’re delighted they have chosen to support our Gold Dust Appeal in appreciation of the care Marc and Dawn’s son received at Derriford Hospital and we’d like to thank everyone for their support!”
The Gold Dust Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to create a bright, exciting and welcoming environment throughout the children’s and young people’s areas on level 12 of Derriford Hospital.
