Community to get update on Oceansgate

Local people and businesses around Devonport are being invited to hear about latest plans for Oceansgate.

A community briefing session will take place on Tuesday 25 October at Devonport Library on Chapel Street which aims to give people who live or work near the site a progress report.

The first phase of the development has recently been given planning permission with the work due to start on entrance to Oceansgate early in the New Year.

The first phase includes offices and two rows of industrial units at the entrance to the Marine Industries Production Campus in the former South Yard.

The former MOD yard is being opened up to private businesses and under the City Deal will become a hub for marine companies, providing workshops, offices and laboratory space for engineering, manufacturing and research.

It will have up to 16,000m2 of flexible employment space with deep water docks and jetties suitable for the marine and advanced manufacturing sector.

Council Leader Ian Bowyer said: “We’re really excited about Oceansgate and the opportunities it opens up for local people and businesses.

“We think it’s important to talk directly to those who are closest to this development, so they can see what’s going on and talk to the project team about how this will affect them.”

Over the coming weeks for instance, initial infrastructure work will get underway. Contractors will start work on the sewage system, connecting new drains with the existing network.

The event will run from 3pm until 7pm so that people can pop in after school, college or work.
