Plymouth shortlisted as one of the best places in the UK for a family city break
Britain’s Ocean City is battling the likes of London, Edinburgh and Bath to become the country’s best short break destination for families.
The city has been shortlisted in the Family Traveller Magazine Awards and is up against competition from some of the UK’s top holiday destinations.
Plymouth’s application outlined the city’s atmospheric and beautiful Waterfront, the historic Barbican, its wonderful seaside location, great activities, vibrant nightlife and unique shops, bars and restaurants.
It is now up to the public to vote for their favourite - in the Best UK City Break for Families category - to help Plymouth scoop the coveted title.
But the competition is stiff with seven other cities vying for the prestigious award – London, Bath, Edinburgh, Bristol, Carlisle, Bradford and Newcastle.
Other attractions that could help Plymouth win the title include the National Marine Aquarium, the Mayflower Steps following in the footsteps of the Pilgrim Father’s 400 years ago, as well as the city’s close proximity to Dartmoor – one of the nation’s best loved national parks.
Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “It’s fantastic that Plymouth’s been shortlisted for this prestigious award. We’re up there with some of the best-known city break destinations in the UK, including Bath, Edinburgh and London.
“This highlights just how much the city has to offer, from great attractions, events and restaurants to a rich history and beautiful waterfront.
“Winning this title would help us attract even more families and boost our growing reputation as one of the best places in the country to visit!”
“Now all we need is for people to vote for Plymouth. Winning this title will help us attract more families and boost our growing reputation as one of the best places in the country to visit.”
Public voting is now open at www.familytraveller.com/vote until October 20.
Anyone who votes is automatically entered into a prize draw to win a holiday to Malta, including return flights for two adults and two children, seven nights at a five-star hotel and a hire car.
