Louise Parker returns to The Old Chapel with a tribute to one of the finest and most influential singers of the twentieth century. If there is one performer whose music reflects and resonates with the spirit of the 1950s and 1960s, it is Nina Simone. Her sound channelled the emotional spark of the day; her vibrato-rich voice(childlike at times, deep and wise at others) reflected its innocence; her piano virtuosity elevated it with an air of elegance; her lyrics and song choices satisfied a need for intelligent social commentary.

Eleven young people from across the city are welcoming the public to an exhibition of work from British and International artists at Radiant Gallery on Derrys Cross this month.

Tuesday 19th August will be the first in a series of five “r[eff]uge” exhibitions from Effervescent, the social enterprise that recently converted an old bank into Radiant: a cultural laboratory and tea room.
