Police seek man in connection with attempted 'ringing the changes' scam
Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an attempted ‘ringing the changes’ offence at a Tavistock garage.
A man went into Tavistock Service Station on 2 October and bought a couple of small items which he paid for with loose change.
He then asked the shop assistant if he could change some money and pulled out a bundle of £10 notes.
The man asked to exchange the notes for £20 notes and tried to confuse the cashier by asking for some of the money back, as well as asking for cigarettes as a distraction technique.
Fortunately the staff member realised what was going on and the suspect left no better off.
Police are appealing for information and asking anyone who recognises the suspect in the photograph to contact them.
The suspect (pictured in a CCTV image above) is described as aged mid 20s to mid 30s, around 5ft 10ins tall and with short dark hair. He was wearing dark jeans, a white top and a dark-coloured jacket.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting JT/13/1359.
