Plymouth primary school closes early due to drainage problems
Widewell Primary School in Plymouth closed at 11am on Monday 7 October due to problems with the drainage in the toilets.
The school has confirmed it will remain closed on Tuesday (8 October) whilst repairs are carried out, but will re-open on Wednesday.
Parents were asked to keep an eye on the Widewell Primary School's website, which will be updated regularly with progress and school opening arrangements.
Head teacher of the school, Barbara Young, explains: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause parents in particular and will work very hard to ensure the problem is fixed quickly. We haven't taken this decision lightly but we must close the school for health and safety reasons. I'd ask parents to stay in touch by checking on the website for updates."
Widewell Primary School closure information will also be posted on Plymouth City Council's school closures page.
A statement on the Roborough school's website reads:
"Due to complicated issues which have arisen today concerning the drains the school must close today Monday 7th October due to a Health and Safety risk to children .
"We are hoping to ensure emergency work can be carried out today and tomorrow and we will be able to reopen on Wednesday 9th October.This website notice will be updated regularly in case this is not possible.
"I apologise for any inconvenience caused but unfortunately these are circumstances beyond our control."
