After an unbeatable year for women's cycling in the UK in 2012, British Cycling is on the hunt for the next generation of Breeze champions in Plymouth to help inspire more women in the region to get on their bikes and have fun by offering a free British Cycling accredited training course.

British Cycling's Breeze network is the biggest programme ever to get more women into riding bikes for fun. Led by women for women, Breeze relies on a hugely important group of volunteer champions to make this programme come to life. Breeze champions help other women enjoy the fun, fresh air and freedom offered by bikes rides. There is no need to be a cycling expert, just be confident on a bike and have heaps of enthusiasm. Breeze empowers women to change the face of cycling for good and leave a lasting legacy in their area.

If there are any enthusiastic women out there who want to bring out the exciting, friendly and sociable elements of bike rides – Breeze has just the thing. In partnership with Plymouth City Council, the Breeze champion training course empowers and supports women to lead and deliver women-only bike rides in their local area and shares tips and advice on all practical aspects of a ride.

Kirsti Grayson, Breeze champion said: "I absolutely love being a Breeze champion and it's fantastic meeting lots of different women and encouraging them to cycle. You can't beat getting out into the great outdoors and seeing the world from a two wheeled perspective. It's a fantastic environment, really nurturing and the course is well organised. I'd recommend training to become a Breeze champion to any woman out there who wants to make a difference!"

Councillor Philippa Davey, Cycling Champion for Plymouth City Council, said: "Cycling is such a fantastic way to keep fit, but it can also be a great social activity. Becoming a Breeze Champion will enable like-minded woman to meet, cycle and socialise together in a safe and friendly environment. It also means you can encourage other woman to get back on two wheels and enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle."

Natalie Justice, Women's Network Project Manager for British Cycling, said: "We know thousands of women would like the opportunity to get out on their bikes, have a chat and socialise with other women. Breeze gives them the chance to do just that on their doorstep. We're encouraging as many women as possible to get involved and change cycling for women, forever."

After completing the award and receiving their fabulous free Breeze kit and British Cycling Ride membership, the Breeze champions will be able to deliver their bike rides. The great thing about this network is that women don't have to lead alone. Add an extra dose of girl power and team up with a friend to become Breeze buddies and deliver the rides together. The opportunities are endless.

There are still spaces available, so register today to guarantee your place. It's a fun one day ride leadership course where women will meet fellow champions and the best thing about the course is that it's absolutely free.
