Sarah Barrow narrowly misses a medal in world diving final

Plymouth's Sarah Barrow finished fourth in the final of the individual 10m platform, a career best performance that should temper her disappointment at missing out on a medal.

The 24-year-old exceded expectations in her first individual World final in Barcelona, while her synchro partner, Tonia Couch recovered impressively from a very difficult start to finish in 9th place.

Couch had performed strongly in the semi-final suggesting that she had a great chance of a medal, but could not repeat the standard which, if replicated, would have seen her clinch bronze.

Despite hopes of a medal, the pair finished fifth in the synchro event on Monday (22nd July).

But the future continues to look bright for British diving in the hands of these Plymothians, with Tom Daley still to compete in the men's event this weekend.

Hopes of a Daley medal have been played down. The 19-year-old has only just having recovered from a tricep injury. He has also recently suffered a glandular illness meaning his training has been limited in the build up to the Championships.
