Murray faces Verdasco in quarter-final test

Andy Murray will face the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in his Wimbledon quarter-final tie on Centre Court today (Wednesday 2 July).

The 29-year-old Spanish left-hander is ranked 54th in the world making Murray the strong favourite to progress to Friday's men's semi-finals.

But the Scot will be aware of the remarkable sequence of upsets that this year's tournament has produced and will be on his mettle against a player he has marked out as "dangerous".

Yesterday's women's quarter-finals brought yet another upset with the Belgian 20th seed Kirsten Flipkens defeating the number eight seed and former champion Petra Kvitova 6-4 3-6 6-4.

Sabine Lisicki followed her defeat of reigning champion Serena Williams by beating Kaia Kanepi - who put out Britain's Laura Robson - 6-3 6-3.

The top remaining women's seed and 2012 runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska, beat the Chinese number six seed Li Na, 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-2.

The French number 15 seed Marion Bartoli beat American Sloane Stephens 6-4 6-4.
