‘Good deed’ daffs for local schools
Otter Garden Centres has donated bulbs to dozens of primary schools across the region as part of its ‘60 Good Deeds’ campaign to celebrate the company’s sixtieth year in business.
The family-run business approached 32 schools to take part in the Little Daffodils promotion, offering a complete package to ensure each school will have a bright display in the Spring of 2025.
It includes a 20kg sack holding approximately 300 daffodil bulbs, 100 pots to plant the bulbs in averaging three bulbs per pot, plus six 20L bags of peat free compost.
MD Jacqui Taylor said: “We really hope the children will enjoy planting the bulbs and watching them grow. Daffodils are one of the early indications of Spring and always bring cheerfulness after the long Winter months.
“They’re relatively easy to grow so we look forward to seeing pictures of lots of gorgeous displays of daffodils in early March 2025.”
Now is the best time to plant daffodil bulbs, before temperatures really start to drop. This allows the bulbs to form roots which helps the plants to flower in early Spring.
Otter Garden Centres was founded in 1994 by Malcolm and Marilyn White and it has remained very much a family business with roots in the local community.
