A Devon housebuilder had supported a local acapella group with a donation of £500.

Redrow South West, currently building at Romansfield on Fort Road, has donated £500 to Okehampton Community Voices and Acapella Voices as part of its Community Fund initiative.

The fund, which was launched in 2023, provides organisations and charities with donations to help them thrive, with local causes encouraged to apply for their share of a £10,000 pot.

Okehampton Community Voices and Acapella Voices is a fun, social, and friendly group welcoming singers of all abilities. They create a space anyone can join and aim to boost individuals' confidence in their singing abilities.

The funds will be used by the group to contribute towards equipment and material costs for the group to continue performing around Okehampton.

Kerri Hardy, Choir Leader at Okehampton Voices, said: “Okehampton Voices formed in 2021 as a one-off Christmas project, but I found that the members of our town were embracing the chance to be part of a community again, so we decided to keep it going. The choir is for some, a training resource, for others, a chance to socialise and make long-lasting connections and for other members it is their one evening to do something for themselves and forget about whatever else is going on. They feel uplifted and supported in our rehearsals.

“We are a small but committed group and are so grateful to Redrow for this grant which will enable us to save for equipment and materials to help us continue to perform around Okehampton, raise money for charities in our annual concert, and hopefully bring smiles to the faces of our audiences.”

Sian Smith, Sales Director at Redrow South West, said: “We are delighted to have donated to Okehampton Voices as part of our Community Fund initiative.

“We are committed to fostering vibrant communities within the local area and are proud to support a group that brings joy and unity to so many people.

“The choir is a great example of how music can uplift and connect people. We hope our donation encourages more people to join and experience the joy of singing together. We wish the choir every success in their future performances and continued efforts to brighten the community.”
