Apple Weekend kicks off autumnal events at Buckland Abbey
Taking place on 7 & 8 October, visitors to the National Trust’s Buckland Abbey near Yelverton can learn about the historical apple varieties of the Tavy valley and take part in an array of autumnal activities at Buckland’s Apple Weekend.
Visitors will be able to find out more about Buckland Abbey’s history as a working estate, the heritage apple trees in the kitchen garden and orchard and the cider press. Visitors can help decorate the wish tree with apple decorations or pick up a journey stick from reception to document their day with nature.
‘Buckland Abbey has always been a working estate. It was chosen by the Cistercian monks nearly 800 years ago for its ability to feed both the body and soul,’ says Eleanor Hopkinson, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager. ‘Autumn and apple season brings stunning colours and seasonal bounty to Buckland Abbey. A roam around the grounds brings plenty of opportunities for peaceful moments.’
The autumnal celebrations at Buckland Abbey continue throughout October with Harvest Weekend taking place on 21 & 22 October and a family trail focused on the magic of Water Sprites running from 14 – 29 October.
Eleanor continues, ‘We look to celebrating the bounty of autumn with our visitors over the season. Our Harvest weekend will feature displays of beautiful produce from the garden and autumnal craft activities, and with our family Water Sprite trail taking place this October half term, there’s a lot for everyone to enjoy this season.’
