Mid Devon play parks receive welcome upgrades
Amory Park is among seven council-owned play areas to have been refurbished over the summer, to the delight of residents.
A whole new play park with a selection of equipment has been installed at Amory Park, Tiverton, including: a variety of swings, climbing frames, slides, a ‘sky-rider, springers and roundabouts including one that is fully wheelchair accessible. The equipment is designed to support toddlers to older children, providing a fun, stimulating play experience for all ages.
New paved access points, a fully surfaced playground area and an open grass space have been added to the play area to ensure accessibility and inclusive use where possible. The works at Amory Park have been facilitated thanks to an investment of more than £125,000 provided from the Council’s own capital funds and funding collected from new residential development.
A further £70,000 has been invested by Mid Devon District Council to maintain play parks in Crediton (Newcombes Meadow and Barnfield), two play areas in Tiverton (Peoples Park and Coles Mead), as well another two play parks in the parishes of Bow and Puddington.
The Council is also currently carrying out improvement works at Uffculme play park, Pippins Field; with plans for more of its parks and play areas to be upgraded in the New Year.
Andrew Busby, Corporate Manager for Property, Leisure & Climate Change said: “Seeking opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in Mid Devon is a continued priority for the Council. “It is hoped that the latest refurbishments to some of our parks and play areas will encourage greater physical activity and provide countless hours of fun for young people.”
