Adoption charity awarded share of £1m giveaway for under 18s
A voluntary adoption agency specialising in placing children with loving families in the South West, has been awarded £1,000 from a UK regional housebuilder.
Families For Children, based in Devon, successfully applied for the funding through Persimmon Homes Building Futures scheme, which supports organisations working specifically with the under-18s.
The charity works with children who have suffered from early life trauma, providing them with free support to help improve life experiences and thrive to the opportunity of reaching their full potential in life.
Fundraising and engagement officer of Families for Children, Antonia Poole, said: “We are so grateful for the donation from Persimmon Homes – the money will go towards our ‘Right Support, Right Time’ programme, where we offer 1-1 and group support through each stage of the adoption process.
“We have been running our services for almost 30 years; however, COVID-19 has had a massive impact on vulnerable young children, leading to further isolation. It is now, more important than ever to ensure that crucial support is given to help these young people transition to adults.”
Building Futures will deliver more than £1m to good causes across England, Scotland, and Wales. The initiative aims to support community groups working with under-18s across three categories – education & arts, health, and sport.
A total of 128 grants of £1,000 will be awarded across Persimmon’s 32 regional businesses to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects.
Three initiatives will go on to win £100,000 each through a national online public vote. The winners will be named at a gala dinner for finalists in November.
In each sector – education & arts, health, and sport – as well as the £100,000 first prize, there will be a £50,000 second prize and a £20,000 third prize, while a further 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000.
Stacey Harris, sales director for Persimmon Homes South West, said: “Families for Children are a prime example of what our Building Futures scheme is set up to achieve – to support young people in our local community.
“We are still taking applications until mid-August and are encouraging anyone eligible to apply now via our website. These sums of money can be life changing and could make a real difference to the recipients.”
Applications close at Midnight on August 15.
