Devon parks declare two-month extension to holiday year
Four popular holiday parks in Devon will be offering families two extra months of staycations this year, say owners Park Holidays UK.
Instead of shutting as usual after this October's half-term, the four seaside holiday parks will continue welcoming guests until the week before Christmas.
Park Holidays UK, one of Britain's largest holiday park groups, says the move has been triggered by "a deluge of demand" which is showing no signs of slowing down.
Almost half of the group's 31 parks in southern England are having their season extended as September shapes up to be as busy as August.
"By keeping some of our parks open through November and December, we'll be able to provide the breaks which so many people feel they desperately need," said Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish.
"From what we've seen so far, winter weekends are proving especially popular with families with children, and weekday stays are being booked largely by couples seeking a relaxed break in quiet surroundings.
"Although many of our facilities won't be opening, and others will be operating on reduced hours, winter can be a fantastic time for a cosy break, and to top up the batteries.
"Roads, towns and visitor attractions are all less busy, and you can enjoy beautiful coast and countryside walks with the feeling that you've got it all to yourself.
"Visits could be timed to take in a village bonfire party, to visit nearby family or friends, to see a show, or to get in some stress-free Christmas shopping.
"I think that this move will also be welcomed by the many local businesses which rely on tourism spending, and which suffered a severe loss of income during the lockdown period," added Tony.
The Devon parks extending their seasons this year are Tarka Holiday Park in Barnstaple, Riviera Bay Holiday Park in Brixham, Dawlish Sands Holiday Park in Dawlish, and Waterside Holiday Park in Paignton.
Off-season prices will apply during November and December, says Park Holidays UK, and accommodation will be available in luxury lodges and premium grade holiday caravans.
These all have super-efficient central heating and high levels of insulation, meaning families will stay snug whatever the weather is doing outside.
Four-night breaks during the extended season start from £99.00 for up to six people, and can be booked with just a £20.00 deposit.
