Budding young builders, architects and designers have been getting an opportunity to find out how new houses are made - thanks to Barratt Homes.

Year 10 pupils from Sir John Hunt Community College in Plymouth visited the five star housebuilder’s nearby Redwood Heights development to see for themselves the processes and roles involved in the creation of brand new homes.

“Building Plymouth’s mission statement is to fill a projected 10,000 jobs being created in construction here over the next five years,” said Matthew Carroll from Barratt Homes. “With this in mind, we talked our guests through some of the 50 or more roles which are helping to make Redwood Heights a reality.

“When we returned to the sales office, we held a competition to see how many of those roles the students could remember. The winner remembered an impressive 24, and received a gift voucher to spend in Drake Circus. This was a great chance for us to highlight the varied and exciting career opportunities within the industry that are available to school leavers.

“The event proved to be a huge success, and I hope some of our young visitors choose to join us within the construction industry when they leave school.”

Redwood Heights is a collection of outstanding new two, three and four bedroom homes in the Plympton suburb of Plymouth. The area has excellent transport links to the city centre and quick access to the Devon Expressway - with links to Cornwall and Exeter. Plympton is a short drive from Dartmoor, and from the charming walks around Plymbridge Woods.
