MTV Crashes Plymouth: All you need to know

With just one day to go until MTV Crashes Plymouth, organisers MTV and Plymouth City Council are asking everyone to make sure they plan ahead for a fun, safe and hassle-free event.

Tens of thousands of spectators will be heading to the Hoe on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 July for two nights of incredible live performances from some of the biggest names in music.

Clean Bandit, Sigma with guest Birdy, Charli XCX, Busted and Louisa Johnson will wow the crowds on Day One and on Day Two Martin Garrix, Duke Dumont B2B Gorgon City, Wilkinson and Jax Jones, plus firm favourites R3WIRE & Varski, will take to the stage.

Gates open at 3.30pm on both days, with music set to start at 5pm and artists performing until 11pm. Tickets are still available at £15 per day (plus £2 booking fee) or £27.50 for a two-day event pass (plus £2 booking fee).

There will be three main entrance points to the event: one next to the bowling club off Citadel Road, another near the Crowne Plaza (which will have disabled access) and a third on the waterfront, near the junction of Hoe Road and Madeira Road.

To ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, all ticket holders will be searched and asked to discard any prohibited items on arrival.

Following the introduction of the new Policing and Crime Act no flares or pyrotechnics should be brought to the event. Any ticket holders found in possession of these items will be refused entry and could be at risk of prosecution.

Also on the ‘no go’ list are laser devices, chairs, knives, selfie sticks, umbrellas, Chinese lanterns and air horns.  A sealed 500ml bottle of water is permitted, though other food and drink is not. For a full list of prohibited items click here.

An approved Civil Aviation Authority No Fly Zone has been declared between midday and 23.59 on both days, during which time it will be unlawful to fly a drone in the airspace above Plymouth Hoe. A safety drone will be used by the event organisers to monitor crowd levels around the site.

People are asked to plan their journeys in advance, using public transport where possible. There are plenty of travel options available, including a service from event partner Cross Country Trains, with only a 10-minute walk from the station to the event. Park and Ride buses will run every 10 minutes to Royal Parade and local buses will be running an extended service until midnight.

If you do drive to the event there are various car parks around the city centre, including: Theatre Royal (open until 11.59pm), Western Approach (open until 10pm, £5 all day), Drake Circus (open until midnight, £4 after 4pm on both evenings), Colin Campbell Court and Guildhall (both open until 10pm, £3.90 for more than two hours after 6pm). Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “The countdown’s officially on and we want everyone to have a great time. Plan your journeys in advance, think about what you need to take and allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

“You should also check the terms and conditions – make sure you know what you can and can’t take to the event, how many children are allowed per adult and so on. Think about the weather too and keep an eye of the forecast – it’s really important to stay hydrated and wear suitable clothing.”
