Police in Devon have issued a warning following the tragic death of a teenager in a suspected drug related incident.

Police were informed on Saturday 27th May that a 15-year-old boy was admitted to North Devon District Hospital after taking a recreational drug at a youth disco in Ilfracombe on Friday. He tragically died in the early hours of that morning and his next of kin have been informed.

Local enquires are currently underway into this death.

Officers have also been informed of two young adults being admitted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth after also taking a recreational drug at a house party.

It is currently believed that all three had taken what they thought to have been MDMA tablets. At this time, police can’t be sure if these incidents are linked, or if there is particular tainted batch of recreational drugs in circulation.

A spokesman said: "In the meantime we would urge the public, especially those going out and planning to take recreational drugs, to be aware of these incidents and think twice before taking any unknown substance; There is always a risk when taking drugs and the only way of staying safe is to avoid drugs altogether."
