Freemasons donate £2,418 to St Lukes Hospice

This year sees the Freemasons celebrate their tercentenary and as part of their annual support of hospices throughout the country the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire V. W. Bro. Nicholas Ball can be seen here presenting a certificate denoting the  £2418 given on behalf of the Masonic Charitable Foundation to Emma Perry of St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation will this year give grants totalling £600,000 to two hundred and forty five hospices in England Wales including nearly £14,000 to seven hospices here in Devon as part of the £12 million given since 1984.

The Freemasons have been long term supporters of St Luke’s and along with individual donations made by many of the 138 Lodges that meet throughout the county and the Masonic Charitable foundation together, they have donated nearly £196,000 since 1995 when their records begun.

On receiving the certificate Head of Inpatient Services, Nicola Periera said “We can’t thank the Freemasons enough for their support to our charity over the years. It is support like this that allows us to ensure our community has specialist end of life care where ever and when ever they need it.”

St Luke’s provide specialist end of life care for over 3,000 people each year across Plymouth, West Devon and South East Cornwall -  at home, in Derrford Hospital or at the specialist unit in Turnchapel.  Alongside the specialist medical and nursing care, patients are also offered practical, financial, emotional and spiritual support.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master V. W. Bro. Nicholas Ball, when he presented the certificate said; “The very obvious care and dedication of the nurses to their patients makes us all feel assured that the grant given by the Masonic Charitable Foundation will be put to good use, we feel very grateful that they are there for all who need them”.
