Ridgeway School reopens as Plympton Academy
It’s all change for pupils going back after the summer holiday at one Plympton school. Not only will they all be wearing a new uniform their school has a new name and logo too.
Ridgeway School will reopen as Plympton Academy on September 5th for all students, although new Y7 and Y12 students had a taste of the new school with their exclusive day on September 3rd.
“This is very public display that we are on a fantastic and rapid journey of improvement,” said Principal Lisa Boorman.
Local school children were asked to put forward their ideas for the new logo design.
“We invited our catchment primary schools, as well as our own students, to put their creative heads on and come up with some logo ideas,” said Lisa Boorman. “We wanted a logo that reflects our new name and gives our school a sense of place.”
The winning logo was inspired by the work of Riley Schmid, who has now joined Plympton Academy in Year 7, and Mark Johns from Year 11 currently studying at the new Academy.
“These two designs inspired us to look at the connectivity between the Academy and the different areas of the learning community,” said Lisa Boorman.
Breathing life into the academy uniform and designing the new one was the job of the school council. They spent many lunch breaks looking at sample clothes and colour swatches before voting.
