Royal Seal of Approval for Favis of Salcombe's Cracking Crab

A FAMILY firm from Salcombe have been celebrating after being endorsed by the most famous family firm in the country - the Royal Family.

Favis of Salcombe are the Supreme Champion in the Taste of the West Awards for their hand-picked white crab meat and triple gold winners this year. They were introduced to HRH Prince Charles at an event in Exeter.

His Royal Highness met Laura Favis at the Taste of the West’s 25th celebration of food and drink on the Cathedral Green and stopped to chat to her about the family’s award-winning crab.

Prince Charles, who had met the family before at their boat the Emma Jane at Salcombe’s Fish Quay, asked Laura about production and export before enquiring whether the hand-picking managed to get all bits of shell out of the meat.

Laura told the Prince that all their crab was hand-picked the traditional way at their headquarters just outside Kingsbridge: “Oh yes,” she answered. “All we use is a hammer and a teaspoon.”

Favis of Salcombe are a family firm who have been fishing crab off Salcombe since 1972. They catch, cook, hand-pick and supply some of the finest restaurants in the UK including the prestigious Gidleigh Park on Dartmoor.

Favis of Salcombe crab can be ordered online at www.favis-os.com. The team have also teamed up with the Thurlestone Hotel for a series of Cracking Favis of Salcombe Crab Thursdays over the summer at The Rock Pool.
