Police appeal after fatal collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in Plymouth yesterday [18 May] after a female pedestrian died and a second woman was left seriously injured.

The women were getting off a bus in Torr Lane around 4pm when they were in collision with a blue Ford B-Max.

Both women were treated at the scene by ambulance and taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

One of the women, aged 60 and from Plymouth, died as a result of her injuries. Formal identification has not yet taken place and police are tracing her next of kin.

The second woman, also from Plymouth, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The car driver, a 58-year-old Plymouth woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until 12 August 2016.

The road was closed for four hours while officers from the Plymouth Serious Collisions Investigation Team carried out an examination of the scene.

They have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police.
