Last month, the Derriford Health & Leisure Centre (DHLC) held a night of live motown funk from Motor City Strays, in aid of the Gold Dust Appeal and raised an impressive £628.00.

Tracey Gardner, General Manager at DHLC, said: “We are really pleased that the evening was a success and that we were able to support the Gold Dust Appeal.

“The children’s ward holds a special place in my colleague Paul’s heart, as his daughter, Martha, was rushed into hospital at just four weeks old and had to spend time on the high dependency unit. He thought the staff and care was amazing, so it is great that we can help support something that will make such a massive difference to so many.”

Neil Gibson, a band member of Motor City Strays, said: “Our band is newly formed and we wanted to get ourselves out there, so after speaking to Tracey, a band night was arranged in aid of Gold Dust. We were happy to be able to support the event, free of charge, as the appeal is such a brilliant cause.

“The night itself was well supported, with a packed venue and food included. It was great to see everyone having such a good time.”

Emma Cronin, Gold Dust Appeal Fundraising Manager, said: “We’d like to thank the Motor City Strays for playing in aid of our Gold Dust Appeal, also DHLC for supporting such a fabulous event and providing the venue free of charge. Everyone who attended was so generous in their support of the appeal.

“If you’d like to organise an event in your community to support the appeal, please get in contact with me.”
