Hundreds queue at new Poundworld store
Hundreds of bargain hunters queued up outside the opening of a new Poundworld store in Plymouth on Thursday (26 November).
The new value store located in a flagship position on New George Street was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth Councillor Dr John Mahony at 10am to shoppers that had queued up for over an hour before the store opened.
The first Poundworld to open in the area, the huge 5,000 square foot store has created 30 new jobs for the area. Over 5,000 items are on sale at the store including branded toiletries, groceries, cleaning products, stationery, pet care and toys.
Poundworld is also home to the Poundworld Christmas shop containing everything you need to celebrate the perfect Christmas for less including decorations, cards, wrapping paper, tableware, gifts and stocking fillers.
One of the UK’s leading value variety retailers, Poundworld started on a Wakefield market stall in 1974 and pledges to help shoppers in Plymouth to save big on their favourite household names including Cadbury’s, Johnson’s and Colgate. With over 5,000 products for the price of £1, savvy shoppers can take advantage of consistently great deals on thousands of leading brands to drive down the cost of their weekly shop.
Store manager Clare Rice said: “The response from shoppers has been amazing – we can’t believe how busy it has been. We’ve had to order an extra delivery and baskets to keep up with demand.
“We have over 300 stores UK wide but this is the first one to open in the Plymouth area – it’s been a very successful opening and we’d like to thank everyone who shopped with us.”
The fast-growing value retailer has over 300 stores nationwide and plans to open a further fifty stores by the end of 2015.
