Builders donate labourforce to refurb rehabilitiation centre
Dorset-based builders, C G Fry & Son, came to the rescue when asked to donate tradesmen from their direct labour force to help with a local community project The team of three painters helped to redecorate ‘The Garden Room’ for the newly re-located Greenwood Rehabilitation service.
Greenwood rehabilitation service is for people with a physical disability aged 18 to 65 years and until recently, this service was based in Maiden Castle Road. Following the awarding of a new contract by Dorset County Council to Millbrook Healthcare, the rehabilitation service has relocated to the Dorset County Council building in Acland Road, Dorchester.
The team of painters were Andy Denslow, Matt Brown and Ian Mansbridge from C G Fry & Son, a family-owned building company, established by Charles George Fry in Litton Cheney in the 1920’s, now run by grandson, Philip Fry.
Mike Pinney, Contracting Director - C G Fry & Son said: “When Alison Walker from the Greenwood Independent Living Centre approached us to ask for our help to help refurbish the new centre, we were delighted to be of assistance. We arranged for a team of three painters to complete the job over two days. Being based in Dorchester means that we were able to make a difference for the local community.”
The relocation to the ‘Garden Room’ in the DCC building will provide the group of people with access to a greater range of facilities, both within the building and the town- centre. The Greenwood Independent Living Centre in Maiden Castle Road, will continue to provide its current service in addition to being used by Millbrook Healthcare to deliver the Dorset Accessible Homes Service, from 1st April 2015.
Alison J. Walker, Manager / Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist - Greenwood Independent Living Centre said: “I can't thank C G Fry & Son enough for their generosity and support at such short notice, and for providing such a super end result. The garden room looks absolutely beautiful and everything came together at the correct time to be ready for the return of the service users. Andy, Ian and Matt have produced a high quality finish and done a fantastic job. They have transformed the room into a light and welcoming space which will greatly enhance the relocation of the service users and the staff. It is now the perfect environment for engaging in therapeutic activities. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank R&D Decorators for kindly donating the paint for the whole room”
