Vispring hosts former employee at its factory
Local employer, Vispring, hosted former employee Beatrice Denby, who visited the factory in Plymouth for the first time, at the age of 87.
Beatrice worked as a payroll clerk at Vispring for two years after leaving the army in 1945, aged 19; in those days, the factory was based in Willesden, North London. The luxury bed maker moved its operations to Plymouth in 1971, after the London factory closed.
Having recently purchased her third Vispring bed, Beatrice contacted head office to express her ongoing love for the brand and her fond memories of working at the factory, where she remembers seeing the Queen Mother’s bed being painstakingly made by hand, back in 1947.
Vispring has 180 staff working out of its Plymouth factory, plus 20 overseas.
It exports to Europe, North America, Asia and most recently Middle Eastern countries including Qatar and Saudi Arabia and is sold in high end retailers including Harrods. Its beds range in price from £2,785 to £19,500 and include 100% natural fibres – from silk, cashmere, vicuna and bamboo to Platinum Certified pure British fleece.
