Friends of Devonport Park Dog Day
On Sunday 31 August Devonport Neighbourhood Policing team will be working with The Dogs Trust and the Yellow Ribbon Appeal to raise awareness of dog issues in Devonport Park.
Officers will be attending the Friends of Devonport Park Dog Day, from 12.30pm, with the canine members of Plymouth Dogs Unit, and will also be offering a range of services to dog owners and the local community.
Dog fouling has become a common complaint of the communities surrounding the park, and to help resolve the problem, free dog bags will also be given out to encourage dog owners to pick up any mess their dogs make.
The Yellow Ribbon Appeal is a campaign to raise awareness of dogs that might need more space when out walking and exercising. This can be for a variety for reasons including ill health, being a young puppy, having a nervous disposition, being in season or even being old.
Having teamed up with the initiative, the Neighbourhood team will be offering free yellow ribbons, for owners to attach to the leads of their dogs to alert other people that their dog needs space.
In partnership with the Dog’s Trust, there will also be free micro-chipping available for any dog owners wishing to participate.
Micro-chipping is a great way of protecting your pet, as while collars and tags can be fall off or be removed, a micro-chip will identify your dog permanently and effectively.
The community event is a fantastic opportunity to meet your local policing team, to find out more about their priorities for the neighbourhood and to discuss any concerns that you might have about the area where you live.
PSCO Sam Welch said: "The Dog Day is a great way to meet members of the public who live and work in Devonport.
"We’re really excited to be teaming up with two fantastic initiatives to give dog owners and residents peace of mind, and to work with the community to find out what is important to local people."
