Alison Seabeck, MP for Plymouth Moor View, attended an event on Tuesday 25 March in Parliament run by Samsung Electronics and Code Club, the national network of over 1,300 volunteer-led after-school coding clubs, to discover more about Code Club’s work and its partnership with Samsung.

The programme aims to inspire more volunteers to run Code Clubs in schools across the UK. She nominated the YMCA in Honicknowle as one of five regional centres.

Code Club runs a nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11.

Samsung’s partnership with Code Club is part of its work to help young people gain the digital skills they need for careers in technology.

The partnership will increase Code Club’s reach by opening five new Code Club Regional Centres, equipped with Samsung laptops, where more volunteers can be trained to host future clubs.

Alison Seabeck said: “The CODE Club is a really exciting initiative aiming to encourage more young people to develop the vital digital skills for a career in technology. As cyber security and other similar issues become ever more important it is essential that we get more young people interested in technology and learning skills such as coding so that we can keep up with the global digital race.”

Andy Griffiths, President of Samsung Electronics UK said: “Samsung is committed to creating opportunities for the next generation through access to technology and skills development.

"Coding is a vital skill for young people who want to pursue a career in technology and today we want to encourage MPs to host new Regional Code Club Centres in their constituencies and pledge support for the work of Code Club and Samsung.

"We are proud to be in partnership with Code Club as part of our wider Digital Classroom initiative, which aims to bridge the technology skills gap for young people in the UK.”
