Police call for witnesses to sexual assault in Barnstaple

Police in Barnstaple are appealing for witnesses after a 37-year-old local woman was sexually assaulted in the town.

Local police report that the incident took place between 1930 and 2030 hours on Wednesday, 5 June 2013 on Castle Mound, Barnstaple.

Police believe that the offender was known to the victim.

A 30-year-old man from Ilfracombe has been arrested and is in custody at Barnstaple Police Station.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly a young man and woman who may have been spoken to by the offender.
