CIHT South Western Conference and Dinner 2015
The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) held its South Western Annual Conference 2015 at Rougemont/Thistle Hotel sponsored by WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff with broadcaster Paul Nero acting as Master of Ceremonies.
The theme of the CPD event was ‘Resilience: Infrastructure, Networks and Services’ and attracted more than 80 delegates from all over the UK.In addition, exhibitors from Haldons Ltd., Carbon Savings Alliance, ABG Ltd., Causeway and Asphalt Reinforcement Performance Specialists took stands.
Key note speaker, CIHT president David Gibby gave an opening address followed by a talk from CIHT CEO Sue Percy and presentations from ten leading industry experts.These included senior representatives from local authorities in the South West region, Network Rail and Penny Tranter, Met Office Advisor (Civil Contingencies) who gave a talk on ‘The Meteorological overview of last winter in terms of the flooding in the South West and its impacts.”
In the evening the CIHT held an industry awards-ceremony sponsored by EM Highways.More than 170 guests attended the black-tie dinner, in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) which raised £1600 for the charity.This worthy cause was chosen in memory of the late Peter Swain, a long-standing member of the CIHT South Western committee who was a great supporter of the charity.
Roger Evans - CIHT South Western Branch Chairman said: “The event was a resounding success and we were delighted with the support of CIHT members and the many delegates who travelled from all over the country.I would like to take this opportunity to thank the speakers, who were well received and the ‘Ask the Panel’ sessions were particularly popular.The black-tie dinner launched our first awards-ceremony and many congratulations to the winners.We hope to have more entries next year and make this an annual event.”
