Children of St. Peter's CofE VA primary school (Rendle Street, Plymouth) were visited by popular children's author Simon Mayle this week, as part of the school's drive to improve 'reading for pleasure'.

Key stage 2 children gathered in the hall to listen to Simon who gave them tips on how to be a great writer and told them how he planned and wrote his books.

They also had the chance to quiz Simon on the life of an author.

Simon supported the school's mission to promote reading for pleasure by attending the school's 'reading champions' club and reading the opening chapter of his new book to members of the club.

English Coordinator Andrew Sargeant said:  "We were delighted to have Simon with us.

"He enthused the children and supported us in our drive to engage children in reading.

"Our reading champions club gives children a dedicated time and space to enjoy reading with their friends and family."
